THEY/THEM w/ PURPLE TIGER

ONLINE ONLY

Blake McCord; 2021; USA; 70 min.

A rousing mix of inspirational personal narrative and top-notch outdoor cinematography, this documentary follows Lor Sabourin, a nonbinary rock climber, as they take on the climb of their life: the five-pitch “Cousin of Death” route in northern Arizona. As they push and pull themselves up, over, and around every obstacle on this taxing path, the film digs deep into Lor’s story of self-acceptance and vulnerability, challenging societal norms in and out of the sports world. As head trainer for the motivational group The Warrior’s Way, Lor represents the growing nonbinary climbing community and builds the strength needed to try “something that doesn’t necessarily feel possible.”
