Ten years ago, Kris (Pooya Mohseni, 2021 Outfest Grand Jury Prize winner for a narrative feature performance) abruptly broke up with Naomi (Lynn Chen), an artist. Now a dinner invitation brings the two exes together, where they catch up on each other’s lives: Naomi is now a married mother of two who has given up art for teaching, while Kris is a transgender computer programmer. Over the course of a single evening, the two women make increasingly more vulnerable, riskier confessions, until a stunning revelation brings them to a crossroads. As trans writer-director Mari Walker says of her feature debut, “SEE YOU THEN centers around the universal truth that no matter how much we change, part of us will always remain the same.”
