Omar Zúñiga Hidalgo; 2019; Chile; 99 min.; in Spanish with English subtitles

Winner of the Grand Jury Prize for International Narrative Feature at the 2020 Outfest, this sensual drama follows Lucas (Samuel González), an artist from Santiago who travels to a small fishing village in southern Chile to visit his sister Catalina (Marcela Salinas). There he meets Antonio (Antonio Altamirano), a handsome local who works as a boatswain and performs in historical war reenactments beneath the windswept ruins of colonial-era fortifications.

As their relationship develops amid the breathtaking landscape of Chile’s rugged coastline, inner desires begin to clash with outer expectations of masculinity and hardscrabble living. The men know they’re both at different points in their lives: Lucas, who comes from a family with money, is moving to Canada to study architecture; Antonio must work for everything he has and is content to stay right where he is. Still, they can’t keep their hands off each other and are eager to spend every minute together.

Fans of GOD’S OWN COUNTRY and WEEKEND will fall in love with this emotional and erotic exploration of male sexuality, wanderlust, and the possibilities and uncertainties that come with an immediate and intense romantic connection.
