Suggested watch time: 10/24 @ 3:45 PM PDT
“There’s No Emoji for This”: Our social media presence is our stage, a space where we put our lives on display. We shed light and throw shade and try to keep the trolls at bay. Before the film, enjoy a star-studded panel and performances with QTBIPOC creatives.
CO-PRESENTED BY SHOW BRAZIL and GAY CITY: SEATTLE’S LGBTQ CENTER
ALICE JÚNIOR
Gil Baroni; 2019; Brazil; 87 min.; in Portuguese with English subtitles
This coming-of-age romantic comedy focuses on trans resilience, chosen family, and unapologetic truths. Longtime YouTube star and blogger Anna Celestino Mota is a perfect fit in the title role. In Brazil’s ultraconservative political context, Baroni and Mota’s collaboration is a powerful act of resistance.
Fully subtitled
PREFILM CONVERSATION & POETRY READING
In this prefilm conversation with local QTBIPOC artists and hosts Naa Akua and Anastacia-Renee Tolbert, we will explore QTBIPOC identity and coming of age in the 2020s. In the contemporary social media climate, what does it mean to be out, to be queer, to be a young person of color, to be an activist? The dialogue will also be accompanied by poetry and performances featuring Imani Sims, Azure Savage, and Randy Ford.
