KATHLEEN MULLEN’S PICKS
Festival Director
This year I am so thrilled with SQFF24 it was difficult to whittle down my picks. Actually next to impossible!
GALAS
WIZARD OF OZ AS a young queer person has always been my favorite childhood film.
A LESBIAN MASTERPIECE. Beautiful, sensuous story of a portrait painter and the woman she watches and paints. Stunning, exquisite
Looks at life before the Berlin wall came down and after in the lives of these three friends. Gorgeous photography, creative lives, and friendship.
QUEERING THE SCRIPT and QUEER CASTING AND FANDOM PANEL
This documentary on fandom is sure to delight. With a kick ass panel on Fandom and Queer Casting with Rain Valdez (Transparent). Guests in Attendance
This program is full of fantastic shorts for all the queer in you - living outside the mainstream. I love each one of these films from Trevor Anderson's Docking to Bodies Like Oceans by Kat Cory that explores the photography of Shoog McDaniel and a film called Ponyboi an intersex fantasy.
ZEN is finding life as a hockey player and a gender non-conforming person in their small town.
Anastasia will be joining us to talk about life in the German military as a trans woman.
This film set in Veracruz is powerful story of a refugee finding his way in a new culture and the friends he makes along the way.
This film took my breath away with its tense depiction of troubled lone shark Dung and Vietnmese opera singer Linh in Saigon’s underground of 1980s Saigon. Guest in attendance
FREE PROGRAM: HOW TO BE A EFFECTIVE ALLY with ANASTACIA RENEE
HTBATA is one of my favorite recurring programs we offer at our festivals. It’s a fantastic starting point for cisgender allies to find out how they can best support our trans and gender non conforming friends and family in a safe, open envirionment.
