JIMMY IN SAIGON
Peter McDowell; 2022; USA; 89 min.

Filmmaker Peter McDowell’s brother Jim died in 1972 in Vietnam after the war as a civilian under mysterious circumstances when Peter was only five years old. Peter knew small details about his brother: his time in the military, his alleged drug use, and his political beliefs. Over the course of several years McDowell interviewed his family and Jim’s close associates to learn more about the brother he never truly knew. Along the way, the narrative shifts and unravels like a detective story, examining a complicated man. JIMMY IN SAIGON, executive produced by Dan Savage, is an elegiac portrait that examines grief, family secrets, war, sexuality, and healing, culminating in a celebration of a short but powerful life.
