MEET OUR 2022 JURY

SAM BERLINER

Sam is a filmmaker known for his engaging films about gender nonconformity. His award-winning shorts, Dating Sucks: A Genderqueer Misadventure, Genderbusters, Perception and Float have screened at over 300 film festivals worldwide. Sam was the festival director of Translations, and Programming & Operations Manager at TDBC, from 2013-2019. He currently programs for the Frameline Film Festival and produces animation at Planet Nutshell. Sam holds an MFA in Cinema from San Francisco State and a BA from Smith College.

SEYI ADEBANJO

Seyi Adebanjo is a Queer Gender-Non-Conforming Nigerian MFA artist, who raises awareness around social issues through video, ritual, & photography. Seyi is serving on Creatives Rebuild New York (CRNY) Think Tank -artist grant programs. Seyi was recently awarded a residency with The Laundromat Project, NYSCA Individual Artist Grant, received the BRIO Award and 1 of the 8 Exciting Filmmakers Shaking Up Hollywood by IndieWire. Seyi was nominated for the 2020 Art Matters Fellowship.

NEVE

NEVE (they/(s)he) is a multigender, multiracial, multiply Disabled, multidimensional, multidisciplinary terpsichorean artist of the stage, street, field, stream, and screen. They are an indigenous African living in Duwamish and Coast Salish lands and traveling wherever they have access and an invitation. (S)He is a 2020 Pina Bausch Fellow and a 2022 Arc Artist Fellow. NEELU BHUMAN

Neelu Bhuman is an independent auteur filmmaker exploring nuanced viewpoints on race, gender, sexuality, culture, class, and romance. Neelu's TRANSFINITE (2019) opened 2019 San Francisco Transgender Film Festival and was critics pick at Austin's aGLIFF. Neelu is working as the director-producer on Chiṟaku (wing), their first feature-length documentary set in India and South Africa, chronicling young Muslim transman, Adam Harry’s fight to follow his dream of becoming the first transgender commercial pilot of Indian origin.

MIRACLE EVERETT

My name is Miracle Everett. I am a nonbinary, transgender, Austrian, Mexican, Yaqui and Apache writer, director and producer. I am from Los Angeles, lived in the Bay Area for eight years, and recently moved to Portland, Oregon. I am in development for my queer romantic dramedy, “A Wedding to Diego” which will star a trans/non-binary BIPOC cast. I have studied with Reel Stories, Bay Area Video Coalition, and Oregon Media Pathways.

ANDRÉ PEREZ

André is the trans, Latinx founder of the Transgender Oral History Project (2007). After recording 600+ StoryCorps interviews, he directed AMERICA IN TRANSITION, a 2019 Sundance-backed docuseries featuring BIPOC trans people that hosted 100 screenings, workshops, and keynotes. He’s currently creative producing, A RUN FOR MORE, a feature-length documentary chronicling a Latina's attempt to become the first openly trans elected official in Texas, and DESIRE LINES, an experimental feature exploring gay transmasculine sexuality.

AJA PILAPIL

At the intersection of new technology and Californian pop influence, cinematographer Aja Pilapil reflects the diverse and authentic identities shaping the continually transforming landscape of the San Francisco Bay Area. In 2021, she photographed Lady Los Angeles (in-post), a dramatic short fiction filmed on-location focusing on a young woman skateboarder starring Dee Revilla. She continues partnering with communities and artists needing technical expertise in motion-pictures and expresses their stories with style and an empathetic lens.

EMILIA QUINTON

Emilia Quinton is a filmmaker, technology enthusiast and all around-nerd from the Pacific Northwest. Her documentaries and short films have screened at a plethora of festivals, including TRANS | Lations, and she is excited to contribute to the festivals jury process in 2022. She is constantly in search of cozy blankets and happy dogs to play with.

AUDIENCE AWARDS are determined by the votes cast from festival attendees in our virtual screening platform, CineSend. If you see a film you love, make sure to give it the highest rating possible.
