Cured and Q&A

This powerful new documentary by Bennett Singer (BROTHER OUTSIDER: THE LIFE OF BAYARD RUSTIN) and Patrick Sammon from Seattle illuminates a pivotal yet largely unknown chapter in the struggle for LGBT equality: the 1973 David-and-Goliath battle to get the American Psychiatric Association to remove homosexuality from its list of mental illnesses. As long as lesbians and gay men were officially “sick,” progress toward equality was nearly impossible. Incorporating a trove of newly unearthed archival material, CURED reveals the strategy and tactics used by a  diverse group of crusaders that led to this crucial victory in the movement for LGBT rights.
