CHASING CHASING AMY
Sav Rogers; 2023; USA; 92 min.

If you thought you were the biggest Chasing Amy fan in the world, think again. That would be Kansas native, Sav Rogers, whose life and world were forever changed by the 1997 Kevin Smith comedy, a film that would go on to have great importance to the queer community. CHASING CHASING AMY is all about the film, the meaning it has held for so many queer people, and the particularly special meaning it had for the filmmaker. Featuring interviews with Kevin Smith, Joey Lauren Adams, Guinevere Turner, Andrew Ahn, and Sav’s now wife Riley, this documentary recontextualizes everything you thought you knew about Kevin Smith’s most underappreciated picture, and makes a stirring case for why it should be included in discussions on the queer film canon. Oh, and it’s okay to have complex feelings about it — so do the filmmakers!
