POSTCARDS FROM LONDON
Steve McLean; 2018; UK; 89 min.; Northwest Premiere
Travel to a strikingly refreshing, neon-drenched, ultra cool, imaginary version of London’s Soho in this not-so-usual rent boy story. Harris Dickinson (the sexy star of BEACH RATS in another riveting performance) stars as Jim, a newcomer to the high-end escorts known as the Raconteurs, who specialize in knowledge of literature and art. Jim begins to suffer from Stendahl syndrome, a rare psychosomatic disorder that causes him to become emotionally overwhelmed and hypersensitive to the beauty of art. With clever reimaginings of the painter Caravaggio and hyperreal, highly stylized photography, this stunningly original, witty, and light-hearted postmodern tale is a tribute to the arts to be remembered.
