Guatemala | 2018 | 85 minutes | Li Cheng | In Spanish with English subtitles
On the impoverished, bustling streets of Guatemala City, 19-year-old José spends long days earning money for his family, including his loving, deeply religious single mother. On a break to search apps for a quick hookup, he meets Luis, a tender, sweet migrant from the Caribbean. As their relationship deepens, José finds himself torn between his obligations to his family and the unexpected passion he struggles to hold on to. Winner of the Queer Lion at the 75th Venice Film Festival, JOSÉ is pure empathy and raw intimacy.
