THE ARCHIVETTES (Encore Screening)

  • GAY CITY: SEATTLE'S LGBTQ CENTER 517 East Pike Street Seattle, WA, 98122 United States (map)

MONDAY, OCTOBER 14, 2019 | 7:00 PM | GAY CITY: SEATTLE’S LGBTQ CENTER

USA | 2018 | 61 minutes | Megan Rossman | In English with no subtitles

From literature to love letters to military uniforms, THE ARCHIVETTES showcases the Lesbian Herstory Archives’ dedication to “collect any material by and about lesbians” and document the history of women who love women. Director Megan Rossman utilized her master’s thesis to chronicle the grassroots organization’s intergenerational effort to capture oft-ignored queer life, from its one-room beginnings in 1974 to occupying a full building in New York City. THE ARCHIVETTES helps assure that the discrimination, activism, and love experienced by lesbians will not be lost to memory.

The Archivettes makes clear that LHA is more than a repository, more than a compendium of stuff; it's also a ‘rescue squad’ for those stories, and its members are action heroes.” — THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER
