ASL INTERPRETING PRIOR TO SCREENING
Sweden's entry for this year's Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and a Scandinavian box-office hit, Show Me Love, is a smart, funny, original film about two teenage girls growing up in the stuffy small town of Amal. The original title in Sweden, Fucking Amal, evokes the boredom and frustration of the young protagonists with the stultifying atmosphere of their hometown. Elin is a popular and pretty 15-year-old with vague longings for excitement; Agnes, the unpopular girl widely rumored to be a lesbian, is in love with the seemingly unattainable Elin. When Elin kisses Agnes on a bet, the seeds of an unlikely romance are sown. Unfortunately, so are the seeds of homophobia, which each girl must confront in her own way. Show Me Love is a sensitive story about the yearning, the pain, and the delight of falling in love for the first time, and about the courage it takes to grow up different.
