Opening Closet X: A Voice for Queer Youth
Diana Polish and Max Kelly, directors; 1998; USA; 17 minutes; video

Two teen boys grapple with their mixed-up emotions and emerging sexuality in this cinematic gem. Co-directors Stewart Main and Peter Wells examine two friends struggling fiercely to repress their desire for men and possibly each other. The boys see no conflict in dishing about hairstyles and movie stars while carrying out homophobic hi-jinks. However, their unique view of the world comes crashing down when their relationship takes a dramatic turn. Superb casting and direction heighten the emotional impact of the film.

Also, Opening Closet X: A Voice for Queer Youth is a strong and positive documentary about queer youth in San Francisco, produced by people 18 to 26 years of age.
